In this week’s episode of the Energy Perspectives Podcast, Guyana’s Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall, SC provides a comprehensive overview of the measures implemented thus far to improve the efficiency and transparency of the judicial sector. In Part 1 of this detailed discussion, Nandlall said some of these measures include the introduction of an automatic voice recording system that brought great speed and efficiency for judges and magistrates in the dispensation of their decisions. Platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams are also being taken advantage of to increase the pace at which cases are heard. Another critical initiative was the introduction of more judges and magistrates into the system, all with the aim of increasing efficiency. He also spoke to the suite of legislation being passed to revolutionize the litigation process such as the Criminal Procedure (Plea Discussion and Plea Agreement) Bill.
