In this week’s episode of the Energy Perspectives Podcast, we engage Dr. Ernest Azudialu-Obiejesi, Chairman and CEO of Nestoil Group. Nestoil has been a major player in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry since 1991. It is recognized as the largest indigenous engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning company for major IOCs in Sub-Saharan Africa.
During his engagement with Kiana Wilburg, CEO of the Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo, Dr. Ernest explained that he was on a four-day fact-finding mission in Guyana from June 9 to 12 to understand the opportunities that abound.
Dr. Ernest also shared his perspectives on the importance of local content, emphasizing that championing local content laws was crucial for Nestoil’s success. He noted that Guyana could learn from Nigeria’s journey, particularly regarding local content legislation, funding for local participation, and comprehensive training programmes to empower locals.
Additionally, Dr. Ernest highlighted the importance of ensuring that oil investments benefit the broader economy, touching on areas like tourism and technology. He expressed optimism that Guyana is well-positioned to become a major player in the oil and gas industry by leveraging these lessons.
