Mr. Martin Cheong is the Country General Manager of SBM Offshore Guyana, the first Guyanese to hold this post since the company commenced operations locally in 2016. Mr. Cheong has a wealth of experience and qualifications in the field of business. His academic and professional journey over the years that preceded the oil and gas sector in Guyana proved pivotal to his journey to SBM Offshore. He is the holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy from the University of Guyana and an Executive Master’s Degree in Business Administration (EMBA) at the Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business.

Over the course of 11 years, he honed his skills at Scotia Bank moving up the ranks within the Compliance, Operations and Business Support departments, culminating in his final posting being that of Manager of Finance. Armed with his EMBA and exceptional leadership skills, Mr. Cheong later transitioned to the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT), where he held key positions in the Business Support and Finance departments. In 2020, Mr. Cheong’s notable performance during the recruitment process for another role at SBM Offshore led to him being identified as a candidate in waiting for his current position of General Manager.
