Senior Director - Climate and REDD+, Ministry of Natural Resources, Government of Guyana
Speaker
Pradeepa Bholanath is an environmental economist and climate policy specialist whose work spans climate finance, low-carbon development, forest governance, and sustainable economic transformation. With over two decades of experience at the intersection of environment, economics, and public policy, she has been a central figure in advancing Guyana’s global leadership on climate and biodiversity.
Her research and technical leadership have contributed significantly to the design and implementation of Guyana’s Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS 2030), the country’s results-based REDD+ partnerships, and the development of innovative market mechanisms for forest carbon, biodiversity valuation, and climate services. She has advised on large-scale climate finance portfolios, supported national measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems, and provided strategic guidance on nature-based solutions, energy transition pathways, and the integration of climate resilience into national planning.
Widely respected for her analytical rigor and policy vision, she is a frequent speaker at international forums—including UNFCCC COPs, biodiversity summits, and global climate finance dialogues—where she champions equitable access to climate resources, valuation of ecosystem services, and the transformative development model pioneered by Guyana. She is also committed to capacity building and mentorship, supporting young professionals in climate science, economics, and sustainable development.
Pradeepa continues to shape regional and global conversations on how small countries can deliver outsized climate contributions while securing energy, food, and climate security for their people.
