Mr. Patrick Chinedu Onwuzirike, Mr. Chinedu as he is called in Guyana, is originally from Nigeria, where he was bred and undertook his primary and secondary education. In 1990, he was offered a Nigerian-Cuban scholarship to study Mechanical Engineering.
His exceptional performance as the best graduate of the Year in the Mechanical Faculty of ISPJAE with first-class honours landed him another post-graduate scholarship. He completed this with a Master’s Degree in Thermal Energy, specializing in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
He also holds another Master’s Degree in Education Management, Supervision and Planning and Pursuing his Doctoral Programme in Higher Education Leadership with the University of the West Indies.
As an air conditioning and refrigeration specialist, he was employed at the GTI to start the full-time refrigeration programme as a Lecturer II. Since then, he has served in various capacities of Senior Lecturer-Electrical, Deputy Principal and Principal at the GTI, Principal of the NATI, Assistant Chief Education Officer, and Deputy Chief Education Officer – TVET and currently holds the position of Director and Chief Executive Officer of the CTVET.
He was the founding member and first president of the Guyana Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Ventilation Association (GARVA). He has also worked with the Ministry of Agriculture and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), through the National Ozone Action Unit (NOAU), to assist Guyana, as a signatory to the Montreal Protocol, to maintain compliance.
A part-time Lecturer at both the Faculty of Engineering and Technology and the School of Humanities of the University of Guyana.
He is also a Member (non-financial) of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
